Save Rumney Recreation Ground & Eastern Leisure Centre

                               The Decision

On 4 December, 2008 the Executive Committee of the Council met to discuss the proposal and the recommendations of its Officers. The Executive Committee approved the recommendation to build the new school on the site of Rumney Recreation Ground.

  • The Council has admitted they require the capital receipts from the sale of school land to build the new school.

  • They have changed the basis of the proposal - the Leisure Centre will NOT now be included in the school. This means that additional green space on Rumney Recreation Ground would disappear to build the new school.

  • The proposed school has increased in size from 2.4 hectares to 3.3 hectares.

  • In the original proposal there was no mention of a youth club, but the current proposal now states there will be youth club facilities.

  • Under this proposal, the current public open space at Rumney Recreation Ground would - as we originally suspected - become part of the overall school and could only be used by the community by prior arrangement.
